D. Data Outputs
D1 Data outputs
D1. Please specify the principal outputs or data items to be produced. (D1)
Note. Refers to the main data items to be produced by the survey (eg turnover of business, satisfaction with a government program the business is participating in), how they will be cross-classified (eg by geography, industry, size, sector of business, etc) -- this could be in the form of a list of tables.
The main output consists of varietal data at different levels of aggregation from Statistical Local Area (SLA) through to National. This includes:
- commodity totals and commodity counts.
The main outputs are:
number of apple trees by variety
- under 1 year old
- 1 to 3 years old
- 4 years old and over
number of pear trees by variety
- under 1 year
- 1 to 5 year
- 6 years and over
fresh fruit produced by variety.
Other questions asked:

D2 Use of standards
What consideration has been given to the use of standards? Please specify. (D2)
Note. Should include standard data items (such as employment, housing, etc) and standard classifications (such as industry, geography, commodity, etc.). Should not include market research processing standards.
Include:
- standard data items such as employment, housing, etc;
- standard classifications such as industry, geography, commodity, etc;
- do not include market research processing standards in this question (include in I2).
Geography
The Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) is the main geographic classification used.
Data is available at the National, State, Statistical Division (SD); and
Statistical Local Area (SLA) levels for all commodities.
Industry
The Australian and New Zealand Standard Industry Classification 1993 (ANZSIC) is the classification used.
Commodities
Non-standard. The ANZSCC is not suitable for the collection and compilation of the commodities covered by the agricultural collections such as Apples and Pears, Vineyards and the Agricultural Survey/census.

D3 Data consistency
What consideration has been given to making data item definitions consistent between repeats of this survey or across other surveys? (D3)
As far as possible, consistent data item definitions are used between repeats of this survey. However, statistics from the Apples and Pears collection are related to BUT are not comparable with those collected in the Agricultural Census/Survey (AS).
The Apple and Pear collection is conducted as a separate but complementary collection to the Agricultural Census / Survey but its scope has been enlarged to encompass all establishments that undertake this activity regardless of the relative size of their Estimated Value of Agricultural Operations (EVAO).
The scope of the Agricultural Census/Survey has changed over the years:
- 1993-94 onwards Change in EVAO level to $5,000 and over.
- 1991-92 Change in EVAO level to $22,500 and over.
- 1986-87 Change in EVAO level to $20,000 and over.
- 1982-83 Change in EVAO level to $2,500 and over.
Prior to this, EVAO level was $1,500 and over.
Estimates of production from the Apples and Pears collection are used to derive Value of Agricultural Commodities Produced (VACP) data.
Related statistics can be found in the following publications:
- 7501.0 Value of Principal Agricultural Commodities Produced, Australia Preliminary.
- 7506.0 Agricultural Industries Financial Statistics, Australia, Preliminary.
