Open data provides a number of benefits to the public service including improved policy outcomes, more efficient sharing and decision making across agencies, cost reductions for mobile and other services delivery and improved accountability. It also presents a number of public benefits including economic development and innovation. Pia Waugh discussed the current open data landscape in Australia in the Australian Government, state/territory and local jurisdictions, and the growth in imperatives for agencies to proactively publish and better use data.
