Essential Statistical Assets for Australia
|In March 2013, the ABS, as a leading body of the National Statistical Service (NSS), released the 2013 list of Essential Statistical Assets for Australia (Cat. No. 1395.0). The final list identified 74 statistics, comprised of 178 datasets produced by a range of government bodies (including the ABS). The purpose of the Essential Statistical Assets (ESA) for Australia initiative is to allow for effective prioritisation of investment, focus and effort within the NSS, by identifying those essential statistical assets which are critical to decision-making in Australia.|
This session will provide an overview of the next phases of the initiative, including plans for consultation across governments. Phase 2 of ESA will produce overarching indicators of quality for each ESA included in the 2013 list. Phase 3 involves garnering broad agreement about what essential statistical infrastructure assets are required to support the Australian statistical system.
