A6 New or existing survey
Is the survey a new survey or a cycle of an existing repeated survey? (A6)
The last census was for reference year 1996-97.
Sample surveys were conducted in 1997-98, 1998-99 and 1999-2000.
The next census has been brought forward and will be conducted in respect of 2000-01.
To what reference period(s) does the survey refer? (A7)
Due to the change in reference period for the ACS, only two supplementaries are now required. Past supplementary collections were specifically designed to collect production information for commodities which were planted but not yet harvested during the main reference period up to 31 March. Given the switch to a 30 June reference period, production information can now be collected using the one survey instrument.
However, two supplementary surveys do need to remain. Beekeeping information stills need to be collected from relatively specialised respondents. Cotton growers in NSW need to answer a set of questions relating to sharefarming practices (including name and address details of all those involved in production). By surveying these particular respondents via a supplementary survey, ACS form content and respondent burden is reduced.
Qld Cotton farmers are able to complete the relevant details on the ACS form, and therefore are not sent out a supplementary form. Details relating to WA Cotton farmers are taken over the telephone (there are only a handful of WA respondents).
The Beekeeping form and the NSW Cotton form also use the reference period 1 July 1999 to 30 June 2000.
Is the survey to be conducted once only or repeated? (A8)
For repeating surveys only...
With what frequency is the survey to be repeated? (A9)
