Essential Statistical Assets for Australia: Phase 3 Essential Statistical Infrastructure Outcomes Seminar
Date: Wednesday 23 August 2016
Dr Phillip Gould, Program Manager, Strategic Policy Branch
Mr Michael Smedes, Program Manager, Transforming Statistics Branch
This seminar highlighted the Essential Statistical Assets (ESA) for Australia initiative and share the outcomes of consultation on Essential Statistical Infrastructure. The consultation took place in 2015 and focussed on the opportunities and barriers for Commonwealth and State/Territory government agencies with regard to statistical infrastructure.
As part of this seminar, two case studies were presented which provided examples of initiatives already underway in Australia to address various statistical infrastructure barriers or progress opportunities.
Case Study 1: The New South Wales Data Sharing Legislation, focussing on how this example was able to breakdown barriers in legislation around data sharing in NSW.
Case Study 2: The ABS Address Register, and how it has been used with G-NAF to create a piece of statistical infrastructure for use in the Census of Population and Housing and other statistical collections.
