Statistical Leadership Seminar Abstract: As more service agencies are maintaining electronic databases, and with advances in record linkage methodology's, researchers are increasingly turning to linkage of administrative data sets to answer practical research questions around service delivery and outcomes. With increased visibility of these methods, more attention is being drawn to the balance between protecting privacy and confidentiality and enabling new lines of research inquiry. This presentation will cover some of the techniques used to preserve confidentiality in microdata files, how their use is evolving in the WA data linkage system, and what impact they may have on the analyses researchers wish to conduct using these data sets.
