In this seminar, Peter will discuss the essential role of statistics in an evidence-based policy cycle. He will talk about what makes a statistic a quality one. Drawing on 30 years of experience, he will discuss how statistics can be misused, and how to avoid such misuse.
The vital role that the ABS plays in providing information to support policy, and how the ABS can work with policy makers, will be outlined. Peter will conclude by discussing the role of the national statistical service.
