Project descriptionBy linking and matching Census and Post Enumeration Survey (PES) records, the PES can determine the number of instances of a person being counted, missed or counted more than once in the Census (and similar information for dwellings). From this linking and matching exercise, the ABS can then determine the net undercount for the Census, taking into account the difference between those who should have been counted and those who were counted. The Post Enumeration Survey (PES) aims to measure the completeness of Census data such as the counts of persons and dwellings. Integrating the two datasets will rebase the Estimated Resident Population (ERP) which in turn affects important public policy and decision making, such as the allocation of GST to the states and territories.
